French Open 2017: Men’s results – Day 3
Tuesday concludes the first round of the 2017 French Open. Here are the men’s results from Tuesday.
Tuesday at the French Open saw the conclusion of first round play. It went off mainly without any huge surprises. There were several upsets and the eighth seed nearly got upset, but overall, it was an exciting day of tennis. It should set up a strong second round with most of its big draws still in play for the finals.
Top seed Andy Murray took a little bit longer than expected to beat Andrey Kuznetsov but got past him in four sets. The world’s number one ranked men’s player lost the second set but bounced back to win 12 of the remaining 14 games. Third seed Stan Wawrinka continues to impress, beating a gritty effort from Jozef Kovalik.
Kei Nishikori got a scare from Thanasi Kokkinakis, requiring four sets to beat him. The eighth seed lost the first set but won the next three. 13th seed Tomas Berdych beat Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Gael Monfils, the 15th seed, topped Dustin Brown in three sets. Hyeon Chung upset 27th seed Sam Querrey in four sets. Juan Martin Del Poro, the 29th seed, had no problems with Gudio Pella, beating him in three sets.
