Former Bond Actor Pierce Brosnan has written a warm tribute to Sir Roger Moore. The piece, titled “Pierce Brosnan Writes a Tribute to Roger Moore: ‘We Fell in Love with a Magnificent Actor,'” was published in the May 30, 2017 issue of Variety.

Brosnan recounts how his life and career arc were connected so often with Roger Moore–and

James Bond. For instance, Brosnan reveals that the day he and his family arrived in London, from Ireland, was the same day that author Ian Fleming died. The following weekend, as Brosnan remembers, his parents took him to see Goldfinger. But it was Roger Moore’s role of Simon Templar, in The Saint, that most caught his attention.

Many Bond fans may the story of how Brosnan met Moore on the set of For Your Eyes Only, and how it was here that Albert Broccoli first considered Brosnan as an eventual replacement. But Brosnan steers clear of this side of the story, instead focusing on Moore and what he meant to the entertainment world. Brosnan writes:

"Never forgetting the audience, never letting the begrudgers in, Sir Roger enthralled the world for many years as Bond. Sir Roger played it to the end with impeccable good manners and a wicked sense of irony that was born of years upon the stage. He saved our world, for heaven’s sake, with his movies as James Bond."

Brosnan goes on to also describe how Moore walked on to the set of Goldeneye to introduce himself and wish Brosnan luck. Undoubtedly, Brosnan was touched by the gesture of good will. Few would ever dispute that Roger Moore was a man of honor and integrity. But Brosnan’s tribute further elevates the man we once knew as James Bond.
