One of the Dallas Cowboys biggest free-agent additions this offseason, cornerback Nolan Carroll, finds himself perhaps in a bit of trouble off the field.
Just last week, the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys spoke about cornerback Nolan Carroll. He had a lot of good things to say about one of the team’s key free-agent additions.
“We’ve been playing against him for a long time, and he’s just a good football player and has been in this league,” said Jason Garrett, via ESPN’s Todd Archer. “He plays a very challenging position, corner, in the NFL. He’s been playing it for a long time, and he’s played at a high level. He’s a physical player. He’s a good cover guy. He’s a smart football player. We’ve seen all that already this offseason.”
That’s on the field. But early Monday morning in Dallas, the veteran defender was arrested “on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.” Archer also reported, via a Dallas Cowboys’ spokesman, that the organization was aware of the arrest and investigating the situation.
Carroll was signed this offseason by a team that lost cornerbacks Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr to free agency. The former signed with the New York Jets and Carr with the Baltimore Ravens. Carroll was in the mix of a revamped secondary that also saw safeties Barry Church (Jacksonville Jaguars) and J.J. Wilcox (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) move onto other teams. There are incumbents such as Orlando Scandrick and second-year pro Anthony Brown. Meanwhile, Dallas drafted defensive backs Chidobe Awuzie (2-Colorado), Jourdan Lewis (3-Michigan), Xavier Woods (6-Louisiana Tech) and Marquez White in April.

In seven NFL seasons, the last three with the Philadelphia Eagles, Carroll has totaled eight interceptions and knocked down 47 passes. In 2016, he started all 16 games for the first time in his career. He finished with 55 tackles, one interception and was tied for second on the club with 11 passes defended.
