Who does Chris Pine play in Wonder Woman? Here’s everything you need to know about the Star Trek star’s character in the new DC Comics film.
Who does Chris Pine play in Wonder Woman? Movie fans are excited to see Chris Pine share the screen with Gal Gadot in the first solo movie for the DC Comics superheroine, but which character is he portraying?
Chris Pine plays Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman. The character of Steve Trevor is the person who essentially starts Diana Prince’s story of heroism. When Steve’s plane crashes on Diana’s home island of Themyscira, she is the one to save him and nurse him back to health. Diana ultimately returns to what she calls “Man’s World” with Steve, not only to ensure he returns where he is from but to join the greater fight against evil.
Steve Trevor was introduced in the pages of All-Star Comics in October, 1941, as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was the first man to ever be on the all-female island of Themyscira, and as such became the person to introduce Diana to the greater picture of the rest of the world.
He was a character who not only worked alongside Diana to fight evil but also had missions of his own to undertake and who would occasionally need to be rescued by Diana. While he was initially written as her love interest, and the two even married at one point in the comics, their relationship has remained platonic in other storylines.
As played by Chris Pine in Wonder Woman, Steve Trevor is indeed the love interest of Diana Prince, as portrayed by Gal Gadot. Pine’s contract includes not just this film but multiple movies so we will obviously see the relationship between Steve and Diana develop further in any sequels.
While Chris Pine in Wonder Woman is the first time the character of Steve Trevor has been in a big-screen film, the character has made multiple appearances in the DC Animated Universe.
He was first voiced by Nathan Fillion of Castle and Firefly in a 2009 film, and had his most prominent appearances in the films Justice League: War and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis as voiced by George Newbern (Scandal). Most recently, Steve Trevor was voiced by Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica) in Justice League: Gods and Monsters.
How will Chris Pine in Wonder Woman compare to those previous portrayals? You’ll have to head to theaters Friday to find out, but just like Wonder Woman is a different kind of superhero, Steve Trevor is a different kind of supporting player.
Trevor is somebody who’s there for the woman who matters most to him but can also be a hero in his own right — and that’s pretty wonderful.
