Cleveland Browns wide receiver Corey Coleman looks to be out of service until training camp for falling on a football of all things.

Football is a game of injuries. While the sport is definitely about the ball, rarely does the oblong leather object be the primary cause of a player’s injury. Apparently the football at Cleveland Browns OTAs won the other. It looks like wide receiver Corey Coleman will be out until training thanks to falling on a football.

This has to be up there with Bill Gramatica tearing his ACL celebrating a made field goal while with the Arizona Cardinals as one of the most ridiculous injuries in professional football. We’re talking about OTAs, a time of the year where players are wearing helmets and gym shorts. You’re not supposed to get hurt during OTAs, but here we are.

Having Coleman out until training camp is not going to make things easier for second-year head coach Hue Jackson. Coleman is supposed to be the Browns’ No. 1 wide receiver in his second year after the Browns organization let 1,000-yard receiver Terrelle Pryor walk to the Washington Redskins for pennies on the dollar.

It’s not like Cleveland has a sure-thing at starting quarterback, just four guys that are going to compete for the job. Cleveland has been the most dysfunctional team in the NFL since coming back into the league in 1999. They’ve gone through quarterbacks, head coaches and general managers at an alarming rate.

Cleveland has to be better than 1-15 for Jackson to get a third year on the job. Seeing its best wideout go down to injury by falling on a football is sad, but embarrassing. This sort of thing doesn’t happen to well-run organizations during OTAs. While Cleveland didn’t have to disclose the injury Coleman suffered via football, come on, man!
