Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett reacted to his cornerback Nolan Carroll’s DWI arrest from Monday morning, saying there’s “no excuse” for the incident.

Cowboys cornerback Nolan Carroll found himself in the news on Monday morning for all of the wrong reasons. Carroll was arrested for a suspected DWI, and his head coach Jason Garrett was quick to react to the situation.

While the veteran corner avoided members of the media at the team’s OTA on Wednesday, Garrett talked about the incident. He didn’t hold back with his thoughts.

Per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Garrett said that there’s “no excuse” for Carroll ending up in an incident like he did on Monday morning.

"“It’s a disappointing situation,” Garrett said. “There is no explanation, no excuse for putting yourself in that situation. Nolan has taken responsibility for it. He’s been accountable to it, not only with me and the coaching staff, but with the team.”"

Garrett was quick to point out that Carroll improving himself after the incident would be the most important piece from the event.

"“He’s going to learn from the situation,” Garrett said. “We all can learn from the situation and move forward.”"

The issue is a big one for the Cowboys organization, as linebacker Jerry Brown was killed in a drunk driving accident by defensive lineman Josh Brent in 2012, and Brent ended up with an intoxication manslaughter conviction in 2014.

The 30-year old cornerback had just signed a deal with the Cowboys in free agency after spending three years with the team’s NFC East rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. He started every game in 2016 for the Eagles, and would surely bring some consistency to the Cowboys secondary.

Carroll has yet to be suspended for the incident, but could receive discipline for his mistakes.
