7. Denver Nuggets: Emmanuel Mudiay, PG

Original Pick: Emmanuel Mudiay, PG

This is the one pick outside of Karl-Anthony Towns in this entire redo of the 2015 NBA Draft that stays the same. Even with hindsight, the Denver Nuggets still take point guard Emmanuel Mudiay with the No. 7 pick. And given what he’s done to this point, I’m fully aware how absurd that sounds.

To put it bluntly, Mudiay has been quite bad for much of his time in the Mile-High city. His per-36 numbers are fine to a degree as he’s put up 15.3 points, 6.1 assists and 4.2 rebounds per 36 minutes in his 123 game splayed to this point. However, where he’s been abysmal is in regards to his inconsistency and inefficiency.

Through two seasons, Mudiay has a true shooting percentage of 45.5. That’s not just bad – it’s atrocious in the stinkiest of ways. The point guard clearly has the athletic ability and vision to become a more efficient scorer at the professional level. However, the seventh overall pick has yet to put it all together in any meaningful way. And in the rare moments that he has, it’s been short-lived, much to the chagrin of Nuggets fans.

As such, most people would likely have him going much lower in this draft. However, the Nuggets desperately needed and need a point guard for the future. And though there were a lot of players at the position taken in this draft, Mudiay still has the most upside by my estimation. He’s still just 21-years old and has quality experience under his belt. It’s no certainty at all, but the potential for him to put his rough start behind him is most definitely present.
