What are Wonder Woman’s powers? We explain to you all the powers and abilities of Diana Prince before Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman hits theaters this weekend.

What are Wonder Woman’s powers? Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman will arrive in movie theaters Friday with a wide range of superhuman abilities, but you might be surprised to know that the character’s powers have changed over the years.

The Gal Gadot version of Wonder Woman has all of the powers that fans associate with the DC Comics superhero: her exceptional strength, speed and durability, as well as her trademark bulletproof bracelets and her Lasso of Truth, which compels anyone Diana catches with it to tell her the absolute truth about whatever she asks.

And though they’re not powers per se, Diana’s Amazonian heritage means that she is an elite hunter, fighter and strategist who is trained in many forms of both armed and unarmed combat. She’s not someone you’d ever want to mess with!

Yet like most comic book characters, Wonder Woman has had her history and abilities changed over the years as new writers and different creative directions left their mark on her story. The Golden Age Wonder Woman, in the 1940’s, had various mental and psychic abilities including the power to control the electricity in her body. That’s because her creator, William Moulton Marston, was a psychologist before he ever got into comic books.

Issue number 105 of her self-titled comic, released in 1959, revealed that Diana’s Amazon training made her able to speak every language — including caveman. Additional powers were added and existing ones modified from the 1960s to the 1980s.

The Wonder Woman appearing in the 2017 film seems to skew closer toward the current comic book incarnation, which was rebooted in 2011 as part of DC Comics’ relaunch. This version of the character is the biological daughter of the god Zeus and has inherited many of his powers, such as the aforementioned strength, speed, durability and the ability to fly.

So what superhero gifts will she get to use in the new movie? You’ll have to head to theaters on June 2 to find out, but there’s no shortage of powers for Wonder Woman to draw upon from her rich history. We may not get to see her speak Martian or fly her invisible plane, but she canonically has everything she needs to save the day.
