The New York Jets traded former first-round pick Calvin Pryor to the Cleveland Browns. The Jets acquired linebacker Demario Davis in exchange.

After the Jets drafted two safeties in the first two rounds of this year’s NFL Draft, Calvin Pryor was seemingly on his way out of New York. The Jets declined his fifth-year player option, which will make him a free agent after this upcoming season.

Cleveland came knocking on the door to acquire Pryor, as they’re looking to improve their secondary. The Jets will receive linebacker Demario Davis in exchange, who played four seasons for them before the Browns signed him in free agency last year.

New York drafted Pryor with the 18th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, but he hasn’t exactly panned out as they would have hoped. He is still only 24 years old, and has plenty of time to develop into a quality starting safety. Browns vice president of football operations, Sashi Brown, was quoted saying “Calvin is a young, experienced safety that has upside.”

Pryor will more than likely be starting on the opposite side of Jabrill Peppers, whom the Browns drafted with the 25th overall pick in this years NFL Draft.

There’s no telling whether the Browns are willing to resign Pryor once he becomes a free agent after this season, but he certainly provides an upgrade to the team’s secondary. For the first time in a long time, the Browns seem to be moving in the right direction as a team
