After some controversy surrounded Mr. Met and one of his non-existent extremities, the mascot returned to welcome arms.

On Wednesday night, the New York Mets and their mascot, Mr. Met, received some heat for an incident where the usually cheerful big head had his emotions boil over in a unique way.

On his way back to the locker room during the Mets’ 7-1 loss to the Brewers, Mr. Met got caught on video flipping off some fans with his middle finger quickly. The fans said in a Twitter post with the video that they were just looking for high-fives, while some reports say the mascot was getting heckled, which led to the obscene gesture.

The Mets said in a statement after the game that they were sorry for the person’s behavior, and would rectify the situation as fast as possible,

“We apologize for the inappropriate action of this employee,” the team said. “We do not condone this type of behavior. We are dealing with this matter internally.”

On Thursday, a new person was under the big baseball head, according to the team, and was apparently welcomed back with open arms by fans at Citi Field. The costume has been around for over five decades, and fans would not let one incident take away the love they had for Mr. Met.

Hopefully the team doesn’t have to deal with anything like this again anytime soon, but them placing the mascot back in the fray is a sign of good faith and hope for the future.
