Colin Kaepernick hasn’t been able to find a new home with any NFL team, and Pete Carroll confirmed the Seahawks won’t be making a move anytime soon.

Many football fans are upset at teams passing up the opportunity to sign free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick, but it didn’t stop Pete Carroll from confirming the Seattle Seahawks’ stance.

The team brought Kaepernick in for a visit last week, and the Seahawks’ interest in the quarterback seemed like it could lead to a signing, but it didn’t go through in the end.

Carroll, the Seahawks head coach, said on Thursday that the team won’t be signing Kaepernick “at this time”, with Russell Wilson reportedly back to full strength and no need for Kaepernick in their depth chart that already features Jake Heaps and Trevone Boykin.

“Colin’s been a fantastic football player, and he’s going to continue to be,” Carroll said to reporters. “At this time, we didn’t do anything with it. But we know where he is and who he is and we had a chance to understand him much more so.”

Kaepernick spent last season jockeying for a starting role with the San Francisco 49ers, after controversy surrounded the former NFC champion QB following his infamous kneeling during the national anthem. He previously led the 49ers to a Super Bowl back in 2013, a loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Carroll said that, after evaluating Kaepernick, the quarterback has the talent to lead a team, rather than back up Wilson on his team’s depth chart.

“He’s a starter in this league,” Carroll said. “And we have a starter. But he’s a starter in this league, and I can’t imagine that someone won’t give him a chance to play.”

For now, Kaepernick will have to lay in wait for the chance to play, but obviously has the interest from the Seahawks if the team suffers an injury in their depth chart.
