Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr has been sidelined with back issues, but there’s still a chance that he returns to the bench for Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

During the middle of the first round of the NBA Playoffs, Warriors’ head coach, Steve Kerr, was experiencing migraines and nausea due to a back surgery from last offseason. As a result, Kerr decided to take a leave of absence to prioritize his health.

His absence has not slowed down the Warriors one bit, who are 13-0 in the playoffs and rolled the Cavaliers in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Kerr did show up to Game 1 at Oracle Arena and watched the game from the locker room with Lakers’ head coach Luke Walton, according to a report from ESPN.

Acting head coach Mike Brown has done an excellent job in the absence of Kerr, but the Warriors are still missing their leader on the sideline. Brown urged Kerr to wait until game-time to decide if he wanted to coach the game or not and Kerr decided to sit it out.

Warriors’ general manager Bob Myers said that the Warriors aren’t ruling out the possibility of Kerr returning to the bench during the NBA Finals, but it just depends on his day-to-day health.

There’s a chance that Steve Kerr will make his return to the series for Game 2 on Sunday night, but we likely won’t know till closer to Sunday. It mostly depends on how Kerr feels on Saturday and Sunday leading up to the game.

If he doesn’t return, Brown will continue to handle the head-coaching responsibilities. Kerr or not, it didn’t seem to matter on Thursday night, as the Warriors shellacked the Cavaliers, 113-91. Kevin Durant exploded for 38 points and Stephen Curry rode shotgun, adding 28 of his own.

Kerr hasn’t been needed so far because Golden State hasn’t faced much adversity so far in the playoffs. Hopefully he can recover and return to the bench where he belongs.
