French Open 2017: Men’s results – Day 7
By John Buhler
Day 7 of the 2017 French Open is in the books. Let’s take a look at how the matches in the men’s singles tournament shook out on Saturday, June 3.
Rain definitely played a part in Day 7 of the 2017 French Open at Stade Roland Garros in Paris. While five matches in the third round of the men’s singles tournament were completed, three were suspended by rain.
Moving on to round four include three of the top-10 men’s players: No. 1 Andy Murray, No. 3 Stan Wawrinka and No. 7 Marin Cilic. Murray bested No. 29 Juan Martin Del Potro in three sets. Though he is the top seed in the men’s tournament, it has not been easy for Murray thus far at Roland Garros. He could very well be upset before the end of the tournament.
Wawrinka continues to impress on clay as the No. 3 seed in the men’s tournament. He handled No. 28 Fabio Fognini in three sets to advance to round four. Wawrinka has been mostly solid on clay this past week. Maybe he’ll end up winning the 2017 French Open. Cilic defeated Feliciano Lopez in straight sets easily, 6-1, 6-3, 6-3.
Four ranked players will need another day to see if they will advance. No. 21 John Isner is among the six players that saw their round three match on Saturday cut short by rain. Two of those three matches were barely off the ground before the weather became an issue.

Overall, it’s been mostly chalk atop the men’s singles tournament bracket. Murray, Wawrinka, and Cilic continue to take care of business. However, Murray has not been as steady as we’d expect out of a top seed. Players on the other side of the bracket in Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Milos Raonic have been ultra impressive thus far.
