Day 7 of the 2017 French Open is in the books. Let’s take a look to see how the women’s singles tournament matches went on Saturday, June 3.

Day of the 2017 French Open at Stade Roland Garros in Paris has come to an end on Saturday, June 3. The women’s singles tournament rolls on with five matches completed today before the rain brought an early end to the other events at Roland Garros.

Saturday saw the four women’s singles matches previously on the schedule completed, as well as one holdover from yesterday’s action. Though Catherine Bellis was able to win that second set from No. 11 Caroline Wozniacki 6-2 after their match had been suspended due to darkness on Friday, Wozniacki would come back to win the pivotal third set 6-3 to advance to the fourth round.

No. 3 Simona Halep had no problem knocking off No. 26 Daria Kasatkina in straight sets to advance to round four, 6-0, 7-5. At this point, Halep has to be a serious contender to win the 2017 French Open after how well she has played in the first three rounds at Roland Garros.

There were two upsets on the day in the women’s singles tournament. Alize Cornet was able to defeat No. 9 Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 to advance to round four. No. 21 Carla Suarez Navarro upset No. 14 Elena Vesnina in straight sets to reach the fourth round. It was a competitive match between Suarez Navarro and Vesnina, but Suarez Navarro won 6-4 in both sets.

Here are the results from Saturday in the women’s singles tournament in the 2017 French Open.

Throughout the women’s singles tournament, Halep has continued to dominate. She seems to be a cut above the rest on her side of the bracket. The only problem is that 2016 French Open winner Garbine Muguruza and an energized Venus Williams are also playing well on clay this tournament.
