J.T. Realmuto foul ball breaks Miami Marlins’ fish tank (Video)

Miami Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto hits a hard foul ball that breaks the Marlins Park fish tank behind home plate. It’s cool. Marlins Park had duct tape.
Since the Miami Marlins started playing games there in 2012, Marlins Park has been one of the quirkiest ballparks in baseball. It has that ridiculous home run sculpture in left centerfield. Lime green is everywhere. There is also a fish tank built into the backstop behind home plate.
While the glass was supposedly unbreakable, apparently it was no match for a J.T. Realmuto check swing on a Patrick Corbin offering on Friday night. Already up 2-0 on the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Marlins catcher Realmuto would foul a pitch from the Arizona southpaw off the fish tank glass behind home plate.
No, it didn’t shatter into a million pieces, but we can safely say that the dent definitely stood out. Fortunately for baseball, Marlins Park had plenty of dark green duct tape to fix the problem.
On Friday night we learned a few things about Marlins Park. Apparently, that glass protecting the school of tropical fish behind home plate is essentially the Plexiglas often used in hockey games. It’s strong but will break it on occasion.
We also learned that once again duct tape can solve most problems on Planet Earth. Duct tape is wonderful because it makes idiots that break stuff temporary problem solvers. The hardware panacea also comes in varying colors besides silver and black, like dark green.

Though Miami has not had a good start to its 2017 MLB season, the Marlins were able to knock off a solid Diamondbacks team at home on Friday night, 7-5. Corbin got roughed up pretty good on the mound for Arizona by the Marlins, allowing six earned runs in five innings of work. Miami improved to 22-31 on the year while Arizona fell to 43-23.
