Real Madrid won their third Champions League final in four years Saturday.
Real Madrid beat Juventus 4-1 in Cardiff, Wales to finish off their double. Just weeks after winning La Liga, Real Madrid have thoroughly cemented their position as the best team of the 2010s. At times the tabloids and quotes out of the Madrid camp made the situation seem in flux since Carlo Ancelotti first took over in 2013. Despite the controversy, and sometimes unneeded team infighting, they’re in the midst of a dynasty that cannot be questioned. They’ve become the first team in the Champions League era to win back-to-back UEFA Champions League finals.
Cristiano Ronaldo continued to be the goal scoring threat that was a menace throughout the entire Champions League tournament. Putting two past legendary goalkeeper Gigi Buffon. The Portugal international was one again precise in his finishing and relentless in his runs into the box. In between the two Ronaldo goals Casemiro put a rocket, with a slight deflection, past Buffon. Youngster Marco Asensio finished the Real Madrid route with a goal in the 90th minute.
Juventus started the game on the front foot. The first seven minutes were filled with a flurry of Juventus chances. Their fluidity going forward made life tough for Keylor Navas in the opening minutes. After their initial push, the Juventus attack fell flat. Their defensive performance was stymied by a Real Madrid attack that flustered one of the best defenses in the world.
