3. SEC East contender

The Florida Gators have been the gold standard of the SEC East on many occasions. While it’s not the SEC West, the competition in the SEC East can be fierce and one could argue they cannibalize themselves before the conference championship game.

If Florida wants to be back in Atlanta competing for the conference championship again next season, they’re going to need stability under center and to pick an option fast. Malik Zaire as mentioned, has the veteran leadership to step in right away.

With Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri and other schools wanting to be in the mix for division supremacy, Florida is going to have to hold off plenty of suitors. Zaire keeps them a contender in their division.

Quarterbacks don’t grow on trees and finding the right one isn’t always easy. While Florida had good options before bringing him in, the move does signal that they believe he puts them exactly where they need to be.

If Zaire has the Gators back in Atlanta competing for the SEC Championship, then it will have worked out as planned. The spotlight has been firmly thrust on him now and the opportunity is there for the taking.
