Cristiano Ronaldo earns spot on FIFA’s cover for the first time in his distinguished career.

EA Sports unveiled early Monday morning that Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo will feature on the cover of FIFA 18. Ronaldo was officially announced as the cover man during the release of the game’s first official trailer via EA Sports’ Twitter.

Surprisingly, FIFA 18 will be the first game in which Ronaldo stars on the cover. Ronaldo’s Barca counterpart, Lionel Messi, has featured four times. Strangely enough, Ronaldo is not Real’s first cover man. His current teammate, Gareth Bale, featured on the cover of FIFA 14 alongside Messi.

Ronaldo racked up an abundance of awards, both team and individual, in the past year.

Real Madrid’s top all-time scorer took home the 2016 Ballon d’Or and the Best FIFA Men’s Player award. No. 7 led Real Madrid to their first La Liga title since 2011. Ronaldo’s 12 goals in the 2016-17 Champions League led all scorers on the way to Real Madrid’s second consecutive UCL trophy. Additionally, he helped Portugal win the 2016 UEFA European Championship.

Along with being on the cover of the game, EA will also release a Ronaldo Edition of the game. The Ronaldo edition will include up to $60 worth of Ultimate Team packs, a Ronaldo loan, and eight special edition FUT kits. FIFA 18 will come in three editions, the Standard, Ronaldo and Icon. With the purchase of the Ronaldo and Icon Editions, users will receive early access to the game. You can pre-order FIFA 18 and learn more about each edition here.

In the trailer posted to the game’s Twitter account, EA provided fans with game footage of FIFA 18. The trailer revealed that FIFA will run on the Frostbite Engine for a second consecutive year. The engine made its debut in FIFA 17.
