Before Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals, a Nashville Predators fan threw a catfish adorned with a blue hat.

Throwing catfish on the ice is a tradition for the Nashville Predators. It’s a bit weird, but it sums up the southern culture and the city. They’re not your traditional hockey market, they like NASCAR and hockey. Before Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals, someone threw a catfish on the ice. However, this one was very special. It wasn’t just your average run of the mill catfish, it was one stuffed with a penguin in its mouth, wearing a towel as a shirt and adorned with a blue sparkly hat.

The preparation required for this is insane to think about. It must have taken at least a few minutes of dressing a stinky dead catfish. That doesn’t include how much time was spent buying one in a city obsessed with them. Props to the unknown thrower for showing what Nashville is all about.

After a huge win in Game 3, the Preds are trying to tie the Stanley Cup Finals. Currently, they are down 2-1 to the Penguins. However, with a bedazzled fancy catfish on their side, maybe luck has finally started favoring them. Hopefully, P.K. Subban was able to get some mouthwash in the fish’s mouth before the penguin got put in.

Nashville fans starting throwing catfish during their initial season in the league. Back then, the Detroit Red Wings were in the same division. They were famous for throwing octopi on the ice, even on the road. A fan started thinking how the fanbase could counter the throwing of an octopus. After going through several options, a catfish was decided as the best option. The first one was thrown during their first home game against the Red Wings. And the rest is history.
