Pekka Rinne denied Sidney Crosby on a breakaway and a few rebound attempts.

During Game 4 of the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals, Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators has found his game. After being horrible in the first two games of the series, Nashville’s domination in Game 3 gave him some confidence. In Game 4, Rinne has been phenomenal. His only blemish so far has been a Sidney Crosby breakaway goal in the first period.

In the second period, Sid The Kid tested Rinne again. This time, the Predators goaltender was ready. Not only did he deny Crosby’s breakaway attempt, but he also turned away several rebound attempts. Roman Josi eventually came to the rescue, getting to the crease at just the right time to clear the puck.

Rinne has made some huge saves this postseason, but this might be his most impressive moment. Many thought he was a weak link entering the playoffs. However, Rinne has a good shot of winning the Conn Smythe as the postseason MVP should the Predators beat the Penguins. That, of course, would be no easy task.

Josi got bailed out by Rinne here, as he let Crosby get by him. He has gotten numerous breakaways in Game 4, recovering nicely from his dreadful Game 3 performance. However, Josi got there just in the nick of time to help save Rinne, so it all balances out.

This sequence of saves was huge because it eventually led to the Predators getting a 3-1 lead. It helped Nashville hold on a 2-1 lead. Rinne has been huge in Game 4, outperforming Matt Murray on the other end. These saves could serve as a turning point in the Stanley Cup Finals. Rinne has his swagger back and the Penguins should be afraid. Pittsburgh has lost momentum while Nashville seems to have all of it.
