To further bolster their chances in England and Europe, Manchester United are reportedly pursuing Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

Adding depth and youth to the front line are key goals for Jose Mourinho and Manchester United this summer. The English giants are reportedly pursuing Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata. The move would add attacking talent to a team that needs consistency up front. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are the future for United, but they need consistent striking should they desire to compete in Europe and England in the same season.

The main reason for the addition would certainly be the aging of star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Coming off of the knee surgery Ibrahimovic’s ability to lead the front line in multiple competitions will be tough. Adding another consistent striker is vital, particularly since United are in the Champions League in addition to the usual strain of competitions.

From the Real Madrid perspective the transfer makes some sense if they plan to continue with Karim Benzema in the near future. It was a bit odd when Madrid called Morata back from Juventus at the end of the 2015-16 season. Morata was a great substitute option for the European champions this year. It has simply always felt like he was passing through the Spanish capital. His career path has been an odd one, but Morata still has the talent to be a cornerstone striker. The real question remaining in the Morata and Madrid standoff is if they won’t commit to him as a starter, why haven’t they sold him?

Morata would be a welcomed addition to the Manchester United front line. He adds a dimension of youth and talent that would be gladly welcomed. Especially with an aging Ibrahimovic and a more strenuous schedule.
