In a stunning move of sorts on Wednesday, long-time Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops retired. WWE Hall of Famer and avid Oklahoma Sooners football fan Jim Ross shared some quick thoughts on Stoops via Twitter.

The only person that’s more synonymous with Oklahoma Sooners football than Jim Ross, Barry Switzer and Brian Bosworth is long-time head coach Bob Stoops.

“Big Game Bob,” as he was known around Norman, Stoops was the longest-tenured head coach in college football until Wednesday afternoon, when he stepped down as head coach of the Sooners and officially retired.

Of course, that news didn’t slip by Good Ol’ J.R., who shared a good photo of him at Memorial Stadium in Norman and Stoops from a previous time and some quick thoughts on Stoops retiring from coaching.

We weren’t going to go that long without Ross sharing some thoughts on the surprising move out of his favorite program in college sports. The Sooners hold a special place in Ross’s heart.

To this day, Ross still comes out to a raucous crowd reaction and the official Oklahoma fight song when he approaches the announce table to call some in-ring action. He’s usually still wearing a pin of the OU logo on his suit jacket whenever he’s on WWE programming. You’ll catch him dropping a “Boomer Sooner!” once in a while. Not many, if any, love Oklahoma University more than Jim Ross.

What’s interesting is whether or not Ross will call another United Kingdom title classic like he did at NXT TakeOver: Chicago between Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne and give his thoughts on new head coach Lincoln Riley in his analysis of a match. We might have only have to wait until his next podcast to get a good story or two on the now-former head coach of the Sooners.
