Fred Hoiberg has emerged as a candidate to become the next Ohio State’s mens basketball team coach.
It appears that current Chicago Bulls head coach, Fred Hoiberg, has emerged as a candidate for Ohio State’s coaching vacancy. This news, of course, comes after Ohio State announced the removal of former coach Thad Matta on Monday. This new development was first reported by CBS Sports.
Hoiberg has had success coaching at the college level in the past, as he coached Iowa State’s mens basketball team from 2010-2015. He lead the Cyclones to a record of 115-56 during his tenure there, including four NCAA Tournament appearances.
He has served as the head coach of the Chicago Bulls the last two seasons, but things got pretty dysfunctional there last season. Bulls fans even went as far as chanting “fire Hoiberg” after their early playoff exit last season. A fresh start may be what’s best for both Hoiberg and Chicago. Another candidate that might be considered for Ohio State’s vacancy is Virginia Tech’s head coach, Buzz Williams.

Ohio State is reportedly looking to have a new head coach by Monday, which is rapidly approaching. Both Hoiberg and Williams seem to be viable candidates for the position, but they will be taking over a program that has the 71st-ranked recruiting class in the country, a tall task indeed for either of these experienced coaching candidates.
