All four quarterfinals matches in the men’s singles tournament at the 2017 French Open are in the books. Who advanced to the semifinals on Wednesday?

After seeing two of the men’s singles quarterfinals matches suspended due to rain at Roland Garros on Tuesday, all four matches were successfully completed on Wednesday. While three of the tournament’s top-four seeds advance, perhaps the biggest name did not.

In a huge shocker, defending French Open champion No. 2 Novak Djokovic lost to No. 6 Dominic Thiem in three sets, 7(7)-6(5), 6-3, 6-0. While Djokovic had skated through his first several matches, he looked largely disinterested in the third set against Them, who advances to the men’s singles semifinals.

Meeting Thiem in the men’s singles finals is the greatest player on clay of our era in No. 4 Rafael Nadal. Why was Nadal the No. 4 seed again? He throttled No. 20 Pablo Carreno Busta, 6-2, 2-0. Carreno Busta would retire mid-way through the second set.

On the other side of the men’s bracket, we saw No. 3 Stan Wawrinka defeat No. 7 Marin Cilic in three sets. Wawrinka has been the most consistent player in the men’s tournament thus far. If he can knock off top-seed Andy Murray, he should be in good shape to win the men’s title on clay. Murray would defeat No. 8 Kei Nishikori in four sets to reach the men’s semifinals.

Here are the results from the men’s singles tournament from Day 11’s action at Roland Garros.

No. 3 Stan Wawrinka def. No. 7 Marin Cilic, 6-3, 6-3, 6-1

Overall, we’ve got two great matches brewing in the semifinals the next two days. Murray versus Wawrinka should be a real treat. If Thiem continues his winning ways and tops Nadal, it might be his turn to win at Roland Garros.
