7. Vince McMahon def. Triple H: SmackDown – September 16, 1999/Vince McMahon def. Bobby Lashley: Backlash 2007

l lumped two into one here but the point is this: Vince McMahon should not be winning titles. I understand that the Mr. McMahon character was crucial in getting WWE over the top in the battle with WCW but I just can’t get behind him winning titles, winning the Royal Rumble and things of that nature. Him winning the ECW Championship is one thing, as that brand never should have started in the first place, and perhaps he was trying to give it a kickstart but that actually did more harm than good as it made the brand look even worse than it already did. But winning the WWE Championship is another thing.

If you’ll recall the number 14 entry on this list, Mick Foley won his third and final WWE Championship at SummerSlam in 1999, only to lose it the following night on Monday Night RAW to Triple H. If that wasn’t bad enough, the whole scenario is just made worse by the fact that Triple H’s first run with the title lasted just over three weeks. On an episode of SmackDown, Triple H put up the title against Vince McMahon. Now, this was before Trips and Stephanie got married and all of that so this was a heel just beating up on the owner. Okay, no problem, but did the title have to be on the line? And did Shane McMahon once again have to be the special guest referee? Seriously, they had a problem with that.

To no avail, everyone tried to help Vince but the kicker was that the finish came when Stone Cold Steve Austin came down, stunned Trips and Chyna and pulled Vinnie Mac on top for the 1-2-3. I think Austin would actually have the best phrase for this. WHAT? Vince would vacate the title the next Monday night but there was absolutely no need for this at all.
