Ideally, the play for the Orlando Magic here at No. 6 would be one of the top four point guards in the draft to set up a challenger for incumbent Elfrid Payton, but with all four of them already off the board, Duke’s Jayson Tatum is the best option given his potential to be a high level scorer.
Tatum is a 6-foot-8 wing with an excellent ability to create his own shot out of mid-post isolations. While that style is fading out of the game, the ability to score late in games out of those positions is critical. Tatum is a tough shot maker with fantastic footwork in those spots. His ability to get to the rim may be more limited in the NBA than in college given his lack of explosiveness, but his craft should improve with additional practice.
The other option here would be Florida State’s Jonathan Isaac, but with Aaron Gordon already on board as a small ball power forward, Isaac could be a potentially odd fit for an organization that needs to find its way out of a rut. That said, if Orlando selects Isaac over Tatum on draft night, it would be far from a disaster.
