Both tickets to the women’s singles finals in the 2017 French Open have been punched. Who ended up winning in the semifinals on Thursday, June 8?

After 12 exciting days at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, we now have the two players that will play in the women’s singles finals of the 2017 French Open. 20-year-old Jelena Ostapenko continues her wild ride all the way to the event’s finals. There she will meet No. 3 Simona Halep.

Ostapenko advance to the finals by knocking off No. 30 Timea Bacsinszky in three sets, 7(7)-6(4), 3-6, 6-3. With the women’s singles tournament being all sorts of chaotic this year, it should come as no surprise that an unranked player will have her shot at winning it all on clay on Saturday, June 10.

Halep faced her toughest challenger of the women’s singles tournament on Thursday afternoon in No. 2 Karolina Pliskova. While the other side of the women’s bracket featuring Ostapenko and Bacsinszky was all over the place, the one with Halep Pliskova was mostly chalk.

No. 3 Halep was able to defeat No. 2 Pliskova in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to advance to the women’s singles finals in the 2017 French Open. Thought the first 12 days at Roland Garros, Halep had been the most consistent player on clay. She could be in line to win her first French Open.

Here are the results from the women’s singles tournament semifinals on Thursday, June 8 at Roland Garros.

Though we will be getting a pair of stars in the men’s singles finals on Sunday, June 11, women’s tennis will be gaining a new star with this year’s women’s singles winner. Halep would be the favorite over Ostapenko, but Ostapenko has been an upset specialist from the start. If Halep isn’t ready for the unexpected, she could fall to the 20-year-old Latvian phenom in the finals on Saturday.
