Creighton head coach Greg McDermott may have tweeted his answer to the offer of the head coaching position at Ohio State.

Greg McDermott truly embraced his inner-Millennial in turning down a job offer from Ohio State.

McDermott, who has led a revival in Jays basketball in Omaha, was recently offered the head coaching position at Ohio State University, a bigger school with national pedigree and a higher athletic budget to go along with it.

You would think that a school with the sport’s stature as Ohio State would be too much for McDermott to turn down. We mean, going from Omaha to Columbus would be the equivalent of leaving the Tampa Bay Rays to play for the New York Yankees. That’s an offer you simply can’t refuse.

McDermott apparently did in one of the best tweets you’ll read today.

How’s that for a turndown?

Of course, Coach McDermott has gotten a lot of support from Bluejays nation, praising him for turning down big city money to stay in a city he obviously adores.

That doesn’t mean that there were some detractors. When reading the timeline of his tweet, some took his tweet as if the Buckeyes never offered him the position, while others hinted at the fact that Creighton offered to bump up his pay in order to retain one of the hottest coaches in college

basketball.

Regardless of where you stand on his decision, you have to admire and respect a coach that is dedicated to a program that he has built. Yes, he could have easily taken the money and ran to the bigger program, but what he has built in Omaha is nothing short of remarkable, and the Bluejays will certainly be one of the teams to watch next season.
