Kevin Durant ices the Cavaliers in Game 3 with back-breaking 3-pointer
By John Buhler
The Golden State Warriors stun the Cleveland Cavaliers to win Game 3, 118-113. Kevin Durant hits a huge 3-pointer to break the Cavaliers’ back to seal it.
The Golden State Warriors steal a game on the road in Game 3. Not only does America get a taco, but Golden State small forward Kevin Durant drained easily the biggest shot of his NBA career. Inside of a minute left in Game 3, down 113-111, Durant hit a 3-pointer over LeBron James to help lead Golden State to victory.
It wasn’t the flashiest shot of his NBA career, but he absolutely had ice water in his veins. To have the confidence to make that shot, in that moment, over the best player in the game has Golden State on the cusp of going 16-0 en route to an NBA Championship.
It would be Durant’s first NBA title and Golden State’s second in three years. This was one of those shots that could be synonymous with Durant’s NBA legacy. If this shot does help Golden State win the 2017 NBA Finals, this could very well end up as the signature moment of the series.
Cleveland could not have played better in Game 3. The Cavaliers may have taken a few questionable shots from 3-point land, but that’s just part of their offensive identity. James was an assist short of another triple-double in the finals with 39 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. However, he could have really used a block in that moment.

Durant would finish with a cool 31 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three. No shot he or any Warriors player made was as big as that one Durant made to give Golden State the late lead in Game 3. Cleveland might have overcome a 3-1 deficit last year to win it all, but overcoming a 3-0 deficit is not even remotely realistic. It would have been 2-1 Warriors had Durant not hit that shot.
