Charlie Kimball got his first break of the 2017 IndyCar season by winning the Texas pole. Here are the complete Rainguard Water Sealers 600 qualifying results.

Charlie Kimball captured the Verizon P1 Award for Saturday’s Rainguard Water Sealers 600, earning a big positive for the No. 83 Chip Ganassi Racing team that has battled in the 2017 IndyCar season.

Kimball was first in Friday qualifying at Texas Motor Speedway by a large margin, beating out his teammate Scott Dixon by four-tenths of a second (222.556 MPH average to 222.516 MPH). All four Chip Ganassi Racing entries qualified in the Top 6 for Saturday night’s race, with Tony Kanaan coming in fourth and Max Chilton sixth.

Qualifying for the Rainguard Water Sealers 600 continued Honda’s domination of the 2017 IndyCar season. The Top 8 cars were all Honda entries, with Will Power of Team Penske being the top qualifying Chevrolet at 221.277 MPH.

But the day belonged to Charlie Kimball, who not only earned his first pole position of the year but also set a new track record at Texas Motor Speedway. A win on Saturday would be even bigger in the record books, as it would be his first win and the first for Chip Ganassi Racing this season.

“I’m really excited to be on pole,” said Kimball in the post-qualifying press conference, which you can watch below. “The guys totally deserve it. Everyone at Chip Ganassi Racing has been working so hard and the boys have had my back all year long through the good, the bad, and the ugly. It’s so nice to be able to repay them with a pole position here at Texas Motor Speedway.

“The No. 83 Tresiba Honda was really good right out of the box and Todd made a few adjustments that made it better during the course of practice. During qualifying we just took a swing at it and went out and got the job done.”
