Cleveland Browns defensive back Tyvis Powell was supposed to be welcomed Friday by the city’s fans, but things took a drastic turn.

Safety Tyvis Powell was dropped Friday by the Cleveland Browns. The devastating news came the same day he was meant to throw the first pitch before the Indians baseball game.

The Cleveland Browns organization had no part in planning the first pitch, per Cleveland.com, so, it is possible that the Browns had no knowledge of the first pitch plans.

Powell was acquired by the Browns in early February after spending his rookie season in Seattle. He played just eight games with the Seahawks after being an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State. Powell was born and raised in Bedford, Ohio, which is less than 20 miles from Cleveland.

Upon being picked up by the Browns, the 23-year-old took to Twitter to express his excitement. He wrote “THERE’S A GOD” in reference to the exciting news.

Friday’s first pitch was meant to welcome him back to Ohio, but his release has put a damper on the night’s festivities. However, Powell is still expected to throw the first pitch as the Indians face the White Sox, per Cleveland.com.

After being dropped, Powell once again used Twitter to show how he felt. He used a Tupac Shakur quote to sum up his feelings:

One cannot help but feel for the young safety who expected to have an amazing night. Hopefully he can find a spot in another organization before the season commences.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns are expected to have another rough season. No matter what moves they make, success just doesn’t come their way.
