Cavaliers break record for most 3-pointers in NBA Finals in Game 4

The Cleveland Cavaliers have broken the record for most 3s made in an NBA Finals game with 24, a record previously held by the Warriors.

In Game 2 of the 2017 NBA Finals the Golden State Warriors broke the NBA record for most 3s in a game with 18. Tonight, in Game 4, the Cavaliers eclipsed that week-old record. In the third quarter, the Cavs hit their 19th 3 courtesy of old man Deron Williams.

The Warriors are typically the team raining 3-pointers upon their opponents, but the Cavs are no slouch from beyond the arc. Earlier this season the Cavs broke the regular season 3-point record with 25. With capable shooters like Kyle Korver (who is literally only on the roster to shoot threes), Kyrie Irving and LeBron James, it shouldn’t be surprising.

They finished the game with 24 3-pointers, nearly tying the record they set earlier in the season. The Cavs did not just surpass the Warriors record, they demolished it. The previous record of 18 is impressive, but this is likely to stand for a long time. In an already historic finals, it is only fitting to see multiple records broken.

The Cavs essentially needed to play a perfect game to stave off elimination at home. If LeBron and the Cavs were swept in the NBA Finals, they would never hear the end of it. Apparently, breaking the 3-point record was what they needed to win a game. Playing against arguably one of the greatest teams ever constructed, it makes sense they would have to beat them at their own game.

Unfortunately, this record-breaking performance will be overlooked. Due to multiple controversial calls and intense moments, this will not get the recognition it deserves. Shooting this well from beyond the arc is noteworthy, but it is not what the fans will remember from tonight.
