Stan Wawrinka took out his frustration during his 2017 French Open final against Rafael Nadal by biting a tennis ball.

Facing the king of the clay Rafael Nadal can be extremely frustrating. He’s so darn good and he seemingly makes you pay for every single mistake you make. Moreover, Nadal’s errors are few and far between. Stan Wawrinka is learning just how mentally draining it can be to face him in the 2017 French Open. After an especially nasty Nadal shot, Wawrinka took his frustration out by biting a tennis ball.

A lot of tennis players can relate to how Wawrinka feels. Facing Nadal has made many players want to go insane. He’s incredibly good and when he’s on his game, it doesn’t matter what you do, he’s probably going to win. Wawrinka fell to Nadal 6-2 in the first set, losing the last four games after challenging the nine-time French Open champion early.

Nadal took the second set just as comfortably, 6-3. With a win, Nadal would become the first player in the Open era to win 10 titles at any tournament. He’s currently tied with Martina Navratilova, who won nine Wimbledon titles.

Nadal’s dominance on clay is historic. Traditionally, clay has been brutal to just about everyone. The French Open has proven to be an Achilles’ heel to countless excellent players, which makes Nadal’s reign over the clay court even more impressive. Wawrinka isn’t the first player he has driven to want to eat a tennis ball. He certainly won’t be the last.

With his 15th title, Nadal would be second all-time in Grand Slam titles. He trails only his rival Roger Federer. It’s amazing to think arguably the two best men’s tennis players are in the same era. Nadal might not be as versatile as Federer, but his dominance on clay is still incredible.
