Aaron Judge is hitting home runs that would make Babe Ruth smile, including the 495-foot blast he hit on Sunday to give him the longest homer of the year so far.

The rebuild for the New York Yankees took all of about six months and one of the reasons for that quick turnaround has been the development of outfielder Aaron Judge. The 25-year-old is a late bloomer, which is odd considering he’s 6-7 and 275-plus pounds, but the slugger is leading the American League in the triple crown categories and providing moonshots like the 495-foot home run he hit on Sunday.

Judge is gaining a reputation for the length of his home runs and I’m already counting down the days until his inevitable participation in this summer’s Home Run Derby because of shots like this.

Check out Judge hitting a blast that may be orbiting the Earth right now.

Judge hit the ball so far that his teammates, especially Didi Gregorius were in awe of his sheer power.

It wasn’t just the fans and Judge’s teammates who were awestruck by this prodigious bomb, but the umpires were impressed too.

Judge is hitting .344 with 21 home runs and 47 RBI for the Yankees. The best is still to come for the young outfielder who should make his first All-Star Game later this year and put on a show in the Home Run Derby. I’m hoping we’ll see Judge and Giancarlo Stanton put on an epic duel.

Before there was Judge, it was Stanton who was leaving jaws agape over the length of his home runs. Stanton and Judge could begin a healthy rivalry over the next few years to see who can have bragging rights over the longest home run of the year.

For now, it’s Judge who holds bragging rights, but it’s a long year and there should be plenty of competition to see if anyone can crack the 500-foot plateau.
