List of Confederations Cup winners
Which teams have won the previous editions of the Confederations Cup?
Russia is hosting the 2017 Confederations Cup. Here’s which international teams have won the previous nine editions of the tournament.
The first two editions were actually known as the King Fahd Cup, but they have since been recognised as Confederations Cups by FIFA. The first tournament saw Argentina defeat the hosts Saudi Arabia 3-1 in 1992.
Three years later Argentina made the final again, but this time they were defeated 2-0 by a Denmark side who had won the European Championship in 1992.
The tournament’s most successful side won the next edition in 1997. Brazil have won the title four times. The first of these was secured thanks to a handsome 6-0 triumph over Australia.
Much like their fierce rivals in the first two editions, Brazil were defeated in the next final as they aimed to defend their crown. The tournament hosts Mexico were victorious, 4-3, in the most exciting of the nine finals to date.
In 2001, France added the Confederations Cup to the World Cup and European Championship titles they had won in the preceding three years. Les Bleus defeated the hosts Japan 1-0, and they retained the trophy by the same scoreline two years later. This time France were on home turf, and they saw off Cameroon to win the sixth Confederations Cup.

Brazil have won all three editions since then. In 2005 they defeated Argentina 4-1 in Germany. They travelled to South Africa in 2009 and saw off the USA 3-2, before winning in 2013 against Spain in Rio.
Mexico are the only previous winners who will be in Russia for the 2017 tournament. The other teams in the field are New Zealand, Portugal, Chile, Cameroon, Australia and Germany. We may see a sixth different team add their name to this list of Confederations Cup champions.
