10. Los Angeles Angels

2016 Record: 73-89

Selection: Jordon Adell, OF, High School, Kentucky

College Commitment: Louisville

Signing Bonus Slot Value: $4,570,000

There have been various reports that Jordon Adell will not get past the Angels. The physically impressive outfielder could go earlier to the Brewers or could go much later depending on how teams view his hit tool development. After depleting the system making a run on players such as short stop Andrelton Simmons, Angels target high upside high school outfielder.

On the positive, Adell shares similarities with the previously drafted Austin Beck. Adell is bigger and stronger then Beck, with similar qualities of both foot and bat speed. Also, both have really strong arms, allowing both prospects to project to any outfield position on the diamond. Perhaps no player combines Adell’s athleticism with pure  raw power potential.

Concerns abound with Adell’s ability to make consistent contact, especially on off speed offerings. He has struggled against top level pitching competition making consistent contact and the ability to adapt to make adjustments. While some scouts believe he’s beginning to develop an ability to adjust and recognize off speed offerings, he’s a prospect that could take awhile to move through the the development system.

If Adell can increase his frequency of contact, he could be a star for the Angels. However, it will take a lot of work and time to get there.
