US Open 2017: 10 dark horse golfers to win
9. Adam Hadwin
Early in the PGA Tour season, you might’ve heard the name Adam Hadwin a few times. That’s because he was absolutely on fire early in the year and seemed to be heading for a monstrous 2017. Considering that he’s never finished higher than 85th in the FedEx Cup points standings since turning pro in 2009, that seemed like a breakout story waiting to happen for the 29-year old.
Unfortunately for the Canadian, that hasn’t been the case. He’s cooled off considerably over the past two months and seems to not really be in form coming into the US Open. With that being said, it’s hard to totally count a player who was playing well enough early in the year to be all the way up at ninth in the FedEx Cup standings. He has four top-10 finishes already and, despite his recent flaws, has still made 15 of 17 cuts this season. He’s been consistent, even if his finishing place has dipped a bit of late.
With how well he’s been playing in the fairways this season with his approach, Hadwin could be a threat to really make some noise this weekend at Erin Hills. Given his history on the PGA Tour, he’d undoubtedly ben an improbable winner. Of course, his start to 2017 was also improbable, and that turned out pretty well for him.
