The 2017 US Open Championship begins on Thursday, June 15 at a first-time location. Where will the 2017 US Open Championship be held this year?

Around Father’s Day weekend is usually when the PGA Tour crowns its second major champion of the year. Back in April, popular Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia won his first major by winning the 2017 Masters Tournament at Augusta National. This upcoming weekend is all about the 2017 US Open Championship.

The US Open is one of the four majors on the PGA Tour. Unlike the Masters, which is only played at Augusta National, the US Open always rotates it venue of choice. This year is interesting because the 117th playing of the US Open will be at a first-time location.

So where will the 2017 US Open Championship be played at this upcoming weekend? It’s on to Wisconsin, as Erin Hills will be the host site for the men’s major tournament. Erin Hills is located roughly 35 miles northwest of Milwaukee.

While the US Open has never been at Erin Hills, this is the fifth time a PGA Tour major will be played in Wisconsin. Three times has the PGA Championship been played at the popular Whistling Straits in Kohler (2004, 2010, 2015).

Erin Hills is still a relatively new golf course. It has only been in existence since 2006. The course and the golf club itself are heavily Irish themed. A three-leaf clover is the course’s emblem, so do expect the shamrock to be everywhere during this event’s television coverage on FOX and FS1.

Erin Hills is supposed to favor golfers that can really drive the ball out of the tee box. However, the rough outside of the fairway looks to be very difficult to navigate out of. Winning on the green will be important in this tournament, but players that hit it long from the tee might have a slight advantage in this major golf tournament.
