The Chicago Cubs broke a long curse in 2016 by winning the World Series, and want to give back to their fans for all of the support over the years.
The Chicago Cubs had a historic season in 2016, where they broke a 108-year drought without a World Series title by defeating the Cleveland Indians last October. Obviously Cubs fans everywhere flocked at any chance they could for the rare championship gear for their team, and there’s even more that they can buy now.
According to a report from ESPN’s Darren Rovell, the Cubs sent an email on Tuesday to their season ticket holders and corporate partners saying that they’d be selling leaves from Wrigley Field’s historic ivy wall for $200 a piece.
They’ll sell 2,016 leaves in total, marking the year they broke the curse, and fans can buy up to 10 at a time for anyone that wants to spend $2,000 on some leaves. Each leaf will come with a hologram to prove that it’s real, so no one will think you’re crazy and just buying random leaves for hundreds of dollars.
This new deal offers the first time in the team’s history where they’ve sold the ivy rather than getting rid of it, due to the ivy changing color in the fall and shedding its leaves.
Many teams do these deals where they give away pieces of their field or ice after a title win, and even the Penguins are selling pucks with some of the ice from the Stanley Cup Final this year inside of it as a piece of historic memorabilia.
Nonetheless, the deal is still special to those Cubs fans who waited for a historic amount of time for a championship, and now they can get themselves a legitimate piece of that very special title win.
