Kent State offensive lineman Tyler Heintz passed away after the team’s conditioning workouts on Tuesday morning.

In tragic news, Kent State freshman offensive lineman Tyler Heintz passed away on Tuesday, after a team workout at Dix Stadium. The incident happened on just the second day of the summer workouts for Kent State.

The news was announced in a statement by the college on Tuesday night, and the cause of death has yet to be announced. The school released some thoughts on Heintz, who had signed with the school back in February and was unable to see the field for the first time as a member of the Golden Flashes.

“Today, the Kent State University family mourns the tragic loss of one of our student-athletes, freshman football player Tyler Heintz,” the school said in the statement. “Tyler was transported to a local hospital by paramedics this morning following football conditioning drills at Dix Stadium. The cause of death is not yet known. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Tyler’s family and friends, as well as Coach Haynes and the team, our athletics staff and our student-athletes.”

According to the school’s release, Heintz planned on studying marketing and entrepreneurship in Kent State’s college of business administration.

The Kenton, Ohio high school alum had just arrived to the campus last week, and was only 19 years old. He helped lead Kenton High School to two state semifinals appearances, and earned second team All-Western Buckeye League honors in 2016.

In addition to the statement released from Kent State, his high school alma mater released their thoughts and prayers on Twitter following the tragic incident.

Heintz is the second lineman to pass away from Kent State in the last few years, as Jason Bitsko also passed away in 2014 in his dorm room. Bitsko was 21 years old at the time.
