With NBA free agency around the corner, Boston Celtics’ stars are doing everything they can to sign Gordon Hayward, including following him on Instagram.

In the days of social media, NBA free agency has taken a completely different turn. Not only are teams wining and dining the free agents they want to sign, they’re also attacking them via social media.

That’s exactly what the Boston Celtics are trying to do with Gordon Hayward. It’s been long known that there are ties between Hayward and Celtics’ coach, Brad Stevens. With Hayward’s impending free agency this summer, Boston is trying everything it can do to add the star small forward.

What’s the best way to do that? Give Gordon Hayward, that’s @gdhayward, a follow on Instagram. Pretty interesting that a few weeks before free agency is set to begin, Celtics’ stars, Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford, give Hayward a follow.

It might also be because, Gordon Hayward’s wife went to post a picture of their daughter in a Celtics’ shirt. Regardless of what the reason is, I wonder why the other Celtics’ players haven’t caught on yet and given Hayward a follow.

The Boston Celtics are trying too hard to go after the free agent small forward. The Celtics believe that Hayward is the missing piece to their long-term success. With Thomas, Horford and the No. 1 overall pick in the fold, adding Hayward could make them lethal.

This past season, Hayward averaged 21.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game with the Utah Jazz. He led the Jazz to the second round, where they were eliminated by the NBA Champion Golden State Warriors.

Will Hayward put the Celtics over the top in the East? Depends on what Cleveland does, but the Cavaliers have shellacked the Celtics in the past few years, so I don’t think adding Hayward shifts the landscape in the East just yet.

Maybe Thomas and Horford just wanted to check out Hayward’s beautiful hair or his Utah lifestyle, but it seems odd that they start a few weeks before free agency. If it works, remember kids, if you want someone to join you, follow them on Instagram first.
