The most discussed fight in combat sports between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is a reality. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming mega fight.

It has been rumored and discussed for months on end. Now, the megafight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is really happening.

The highly anticipated boxing match between the 49-0 Mayweather and the reigning UFC lightweight champion McGregor will take place on Saturday night, August 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will air on Showtime pay-per-view, which is the broadcast home for Mayweather. The fight card will be an all boxing event with Mayweather Promotions taking the lead in promotion. The fight became official on June 14.

Mayweather has been highly regarded as the greatest defensive boxer of all-time, and is considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the history of the sport. “Money” racked up an incredible record before announcing his retirement from Boxing in 2015. Mayweather’s last fight was in September 2015 when he defeated Andre Berto by decision, while making $32 million in the process. With a fight against McGregor, who has never competed in a professional boxing fight, and the potential of making upwards of nine-figures, the idea of coming out of retirement was too good to pass up.

McGregor has made history himself in combat sports, becoming the first simultaneous two-division champion in UFC history when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the second round of their main event fight at UFC 205 back in November at Madison Square Garden to become the organziation’s lightweight champion. McGregor was the reigning UFC featherweight champion heading into the fight, an undisputed title he captured when he knocked out Jose Aldo in just 13-seconds of their title fight at UFC 194 back in December 2015. McGregor has had amateur boxing bouts and competed for national championships at the amateur level in his home country of Ireland, but this will be the first professional boxing bout for “The Notorious” one.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor will surely be a once in a lifetime event. One of the most polarizing figures in the history of boxing taking on the biggest star in the history of mixed martial arts. Get the popcorn ready and enjoy the history making event as it unfolds.
