J.R. Smith “likes” Carmelo Anthony on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Much like Draymond Green did last year after the Golden State Warriors blew a 3-1 lead, J.R. Smith is immediately looking for reinforcements for his Cleveland Cavaliers. Apparently Carmelo Anthony is someone he “likes.”

The Instagram post, uploaded by user president_dope, features Carmelo Anthony in a Cavs jersey alongside LeBron James. Smith, who goes by teamswish on Instagram, liked the post. Either J.R. is telling fans and management that he would like to see Carmelo on the Cavs or he’s just a big fan of photoshop. You can never tell with J.R. Smith.

Anthony is still under contract with the New York Knicks and has a no-trade clause. Rumors circulated during the season that Anthony would be traded to Cleveland in exchange for Kevin Love, but nothing substantial materialized. The Cavs fell short in the Finals, but seeing as they’re the only team with LeBron James, they’re about the only team that can challenge the Warriors dynasty. Should they find a way to add Anthony while keeping Love, maybe the Finals would go six games next year.

Carmelo averaged 22.4 points per game for the Knicks last season, but was subject to trade rumors all year. While no move was made at the deadline, Knicks team president Phil Jackson seemed ready to move on from Anthony immediately after the season. “We have not been able to win with him on the court at this time and I think the direction with our team is that he is a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talent somewhere he can win or chase that championship,” said Jackson during exit interviews.

Anthony would have to waive his no trade clause for any deal, but one would assume that he’d be happy going to Cleveland and playing with LeBron. We know J.R. Smith would like it.
