If you’re in the Los Angeles area on Thursday, June 15, you can pay your respects to the man who made Batman a household name once upon a time.

The passing of Adam West earlier this month was one of those deaths that affected a great number of people. Obviously, it saddened the people who worked with him on Batman and more recent projects like Family Guy, but it also had an impact on the millions of fans who enjoyed his work.

Some of those fans will have a way to pay tribute to West in a very cool way on Thursday, June 15. The city of Los Angeles will honor the “Bright Knight” in the most appropriate manner possible, by having Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Police Department Chief Charlie Beck light the Bat-signal at City Hall.

Here’s more information, courtesy of the DC Comics blog:

"The legendary star of the classic Batman TV series, which aired from 1966-68, passed away on Friday, June 9 at the age of 88. In remembrance of West’s unforgettable portrayal of the celebrated “Bright Knight,” Mayor Garcetti and Chief Beck will light the iconic Bat-signal, which will be projected onto the tower of Los Angeles City Hall at Spring Street. Attending Bat-fans are invited to don their Bat-suits and trusty utility belts in honor of West’s signature role as the true crimefighter."

If you’re considering attending in person, here’s the relevant info you’ll need:

When: Thursday, June 15

Time: 9:00 PM PST

Location: Los Angeles City Hall, Spring Street Steps: 200 N Spring St, Los Angeles, CA 90012

And for the many people who will be too far away to make it to L.A., the West family suggests making a donation to the Adam West Memorial Fund for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Idaho-based charity for children diagnosed with cancer and their families, Camp Rainbow Gold. Both would be excellent ways to honor the original Caped Crusader.
