Mario’s hat from Super Mario Odyssey makes for a hilarious meme

If you could throw a hat onto anything and possess it, what would it be and why?

Super Mario Odyssey has received a tremendous amount of press after Nintendo closed its E3 2017 presentation with a trailer for the game.

Among all of the exciting things that we can expect from the game — the open world feel, the exquisitely designed levels, the ingenious and unique puzzles Mario will have to solve — none received more attention than Mario’s magical hat, Cappy.

The big thing in Super Mario Odyssey is that Mario can throw Cappy at anyone or anything and possess it. If that sounds both cool and disturbing, it’s because it is both of those things if you think hard enough about it. And the internet has discussed that at length.

It’s weird, right? With Cappy, Mario can possess and control everything from a Bullet Bill to … well, a dinosaur.

There seems to be no rules to the extent of what Cappy can do. This is a serious unchecked power situation that no one in the game seems sufficiently concerned about.

Of course, because of that, Cappy has become the next internet meme. People have Mario throwing Cappy onto literally everything. Because as we have just proven, he can.

Beware, because you never know when the hat will come for you.

If it’s any peace of mind, you will be able to control Cappy in Super Mario Odyssey‘s local co-op mode. While one player controls Mario, the other will get to fly around as Cappy. No word if this means Cappy will just have even more unchecked rampant possessing power or if Mario has to physically throw Cappy at someone in order to tap into the possession.

Whatever the case is, we can all start possessing everything in sight on Oct. 27, 2017 when Super Mario Odyssey is released.
