How much money will those who place in the 2017 US Open receive?

On Thursday, the 2017 US Open will begin. This will be played in Erin Hills, WI for the first time ever, and take place from June 15 to June 18.

The US Open is one of golf’s biggest tournaments of the year, as well as being a major; it’s the second one of these of the year, with The Masters the first to take place. Sergio Garcia took home the illustrious green jacket in April and will look to add to his golf-major accolades in Erin Hills.

Most of the top players will be in action, including Dustin Johnson. He missed this year’s Masters event due to injury a short time before the event began. Johnson will look to regain his form and take home the US Open championship for the second straight year.

There are also the usual favorites like Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy. They’ll be in the running from the start of the weekend up until the second-day cuts and the final round — if both make it that far.

These golfers and others will be competing for not only the US Open trophy but the prize money that’s tied to it. Given this is a major, the payout expectations will likely be lofty.

According to Bleacher Report, a total of $36.3 million will be paid out after the US Open. Roughly $3.5 million will go to the winner, which is a significant chunk of the full amount.
