The New York Yankees may have to live without big lefty CC Sabathia for at least a month following his straining his hamstring.

New York Yankees starter CC Sabathia suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain and could miss at least a month, according to an AP Report, via ESPN. WFAN’s Sweeney Murti also posted a tweet about the big lefty’s injury.

Sabathia suffered the injury in the fourth inning of his start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday night. He finished the inning and was removed from the game immediately thereafter.

No decision has yet been made on who will take Sabathia’s spot in the rotation. As of now, it’s looking like it will either be Chad Green or rookie Domingo German. Another option could be 22-year-old prospect Chance Adams, who has gone 7-2 with a 1.78 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 12 starts across Double and Triple-A this season.

Regardless of who replaces Sabathia while he’s out, this is still a huge loss for the Yankees. Sabathia was on an absolute roll prior to his injury and was 7-2 with a 3.46 ERA across 13 starts.

Unfortunately, spending time on the disabled list has become the new normal for the big lefty. He has not pitched 200 innings since 2013 thanks to spending time on the disabled list every season since, primarily with knee problems.

It was revealed in 2015 that Sabathia was suffering from arthritis in his right knee and would eventually need replacement surgery. Thanks to pitching with a knee brace, he was finally able to compensate for the loss of velocity he suffered following surgery to remove a bone spur from his elbow in 2012.

Sabathia was key in helping the Yankees get to first place in the AL East thus far, but the team’s slim two-game lead over the Boston Red Sox is all the more tenuous with him gone.

Here’s hoping he recovers quickly for the Yankees’ sake.
