Veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin hopes to continue NFL career and has a preferred destination.

The time of year between the draft and the start of training camp is upon us. As always, it brings stories of NFL veterans looking for a home, hoping for at least one more year in the NFL sun before heading off into the sunset. Wide receiver Anquan Boldin, formerly of the Detroit Lions, is one such player.

After entering the NFL in 2003 as a second-round selection of the Arizona Cardinals, Boldin has been a solid contributor in the NFL ever since, amassing 13,779 yards and 82 touchdowns. After spending last season with the Detroit Lions, Boldin is hoping to extend his career in a warmer locale. Specifically, Boldin reportedly would prefer to play for a team in his home state of Florida.

As Michael David Smith writes, Boldin prefers to play for a team in Florida, the state he’s originally from. After growing up in Pahokee in South Florida, Boldin attended Florida State University in North Florida, declaring for the draft after the 2003 Sugar Bowl.

The holdup for Boldin is none of the teams located in Florida (no in nearby states) appear to have a need at wide receiver. Miami and Jacksonville have quality depth at the position, and Tampa invested heavily in the position during the early stages of free agency. Nearby teams such as the Falcons don’t appear to have a great need, nor do teams like the Saints and Panther. Finding a home nearby could be a challenge.

In fact, finding a home at all could be difficult. The 36-year-old appears completely out of the plans of the Lions, his most recent team. Detroit Lions head coach had this to say about Boldin and his search for a new home.

The most likely situation for Boldin to find a team will be a training camp injury or under-performing young receiver.
