Where did Jordan Spieth finish on the second round leaderboard at Erin Hills for the 2017 U.S. Open?

Thursday was a grind for 2015 U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth at Erin Hills for the 117th playing of the U.S. Open Championship.

Friday was pretty much the same thing for the two-time major winner.

Hovering around the cut line for most of the day on Friday, Spieth had to battle to stay above the line all day long, and for some of the day, it looked like he was finding a groove and would be safely above being cut. Spieth birdied the par-5 1st hole right out the gate and then followed that up with a birdie on the par-4 4th to get himself to -1 overall, two shots above the projected cut line.

But a bogey on the par-3 6th dropped him back to even on the tournament and just a shot above the cut line. Spieth bounced right back with another birdie on the card at the par-5 6th and made the turn at -2 (34) on the day. A bogey on the par-4 15th put him back at even and a shot above the projected line again, but two pars on the 17th and 18th kept Spieth from an early weekend.

He’ll be around for the weekend, but the former U.S. Open winner is going to have his work cut out for him if he’s going to make it two titles in a three-year span.

Here’s what Spieth will be looking up at with the updated leaderboard at Erin Hills with 36 holes left to play this weekend.

Spieth has a long climb to the top, but like Jack Nicklaus once said, “You can’t win the U.S. Open on Thursday and Friday, but you can lose it.”
