WWE Money in the Bank 2017: Preview and predictions
Previewing and predicting the 2017 WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view.
On Sunday night, the 2017 WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view will take place from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO. It’s the second SmackDown-exclusive show since WrestleMania 33, and the second-to-last one before SummerSlam.
Money in the Bank will be headlined by two matches of the same name, one for each gender of Superstars. Could the winner cash in on the night of, replicating what Dean Ambrose did in 2016?
Jinder Mahal vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship is the third notable match for this show. Who will move into the summer with the title?
Five matches will go down at Money in the Bank. Let’s predict them all.
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match
The Usos (c) vs. The New Day
Much like Charlotte Flair’s SmackDown Live arrival, The New Day showed up and received a title opportunity immediately. Theirs didn’t come right away, as they’ll challenge The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at Money in the Bank.
New Day ruled over the Raw Tag Team Division for most of the brand split, and over every WWE tag team of all time, with breaking the title reign record in December 2016. While it made Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods look like rockstars, the rest of the division suffered by not getting the rub of holding the championships.
However, for a tag division that’s steadily rising from the ashes, Money in the Bank should be the time to give New Day the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. If anything, WWE should let them run with the belts for as long as needed to boost SmackDown Live’s least-important part of the show.
The SmackDown Tag Team Division is already coming back to life, with Breezango, The Usos and American Alpha at the forefront. To get more eyes on them, though, it would be worthwhile to put the titles on New Day and have a team like Chad Gable and Jason Jordan eventually steal the belts from them. A heel turn wouldn’t be the craziest thing, maybe taking the titles from the Unicorn Trio at SummerSlam.
The Usos had a steady run as champions, but SmackDown Live needs top faces to control the tag-team scene. New Day should go over at Money in the Bank.
